1. GENERAL RUSSIAN LANGUAGE COURSE
Our standard course consists of 25 academic hours per week (five 40-minute Russian classes taught daily Monday through Friday) in a small size class (max. 5 students/group) or with a private language tutor, plus 3 one-and-a-half-hour Intercultural Conversational Sessions per week.
The objective of the course is for students to acquire elementary/intermediate/advanced proficiency in spoken and written Russian, focusing particularly on grammatical accuracy and oral communication in practical settings.
The Course Outline:
- development of proper pronunciation and intonation habits,
- acquiring communicative speech skills and development of the student's oral comprehension,
- systematical study of essential Russian grammar, lexical and grammar phrase formation, use of proper sentence structure,
- vocabulary expansion, vocabulary being introduced gradually and systematically,
- accumulation of the cultural country knowledge with the aim of understanding social background,
- reading and comprehension of the Russian texts,
- building up writing skills.
Peculiarity of our course consists in combination of individual intensive tuition and extensive social and cultural programs, and this is what makes our Russian studies programs different from the ones offered by other schools.
Our standard course also includes dynamic "Live and Learn" Intercultural Conversational Sessions, which take place outside of the classroom in the afternoons three days per week (usually on Monday, Wednesday and Friday). These sessions are designed so that students must use the Russian that they have been learning in class, but in real-life situations. With the assistance of their teacher or the program coordinator, students carry out everyday tasks in Russian, such as shopping, going to the bank, buying stamps to mail a postcard, asking for directions, and asking for specific information, etc.
This is a unique opportunity for students to build their confidence in the language and gain insights into the society. This part of the program is very intensive, effective, and fun. It gives you an excellent opportunity to experience different parts of the city and activities you might miss otherwise. You will be able to hear and use Russian in "the real world", with your own personal instructor to help you and make sure this is common and useful language that will really have you feeling like part of the community.
2. BUSINESS RUSSIAN COURSE
This course is designed for professionals who use or intend to use Russian in their business to allow foreign specialists to successfully navigate the expanding world of business in Russia.
This course follows the structural pattern of the General Russian Language Course (25 academic hours per week plus 3 one-and-a-half-hour Intercultural Conversational Sessions per week), provides a foundation of the Russian language knowledge, and emphasizes business and commercial vocabularies and business communication.
Students develop the skills and confidence necessary to negotiate business agreements, make business contracts, maintain correspondence, make presentations, etc., which will allow them to carry out the daily requirements and demands of successful business in Russia.
On request, first-hand working experience in a real-life environment can be provided with Russian companies or organizations related to the student’s field of academic study or career.
3. EXAM PREPARATION RUSSIAN COURSE
This course is designed to help prepare students for the certificate examination needed to enter Russian Universities and Colleges. This course has been prepared with a focus on both the basics of Russian and the speaking, listening, reading, and writing styles necessary for academic communication. Minimum length of stay is 6 months.
